Waunarlwydd 28 - Gowerton 0

Gowerton travelled to Waunarlwydd looking to improve on last weekends performance, but unfortunately let themselves down badly.

Waunarlwydd were too strong in the forwards and Gowerton forwards were lacking in aggression.  Gowerton's back line were guilty of not stretching the ball wide and getting caught up in the middle where Waun's defence was very strong.  All said and done Gowerton were exasperated by their lack of sensible play and let themselves down badly with only themselves to blame.  Hopefully the return game will be more of a competitive match.

Gowerton 24 - Swansea Uplands 48

Swansea Ups travelled to Gowerton on the morning of Halloween with Gowerton looking to carry on their run of form.  When the match kicked off Gowerton started strongly with some good running from the backs.  With one strong drive to the Uplands try line the ball was stolen by an Uplands forward and cleared with an excellent kick by their No. 10 into touch.  Sam Winrow, Gowerton's full back, thinking quickly took a quick throw in to Matthew Williams who jinked to the try line to score the first try, which went unconverted.

Swansea Uplands restarted and from the resulting ruck won a scrum from which they scored in the corner, which also went unconverted, score now being 5 - 5.

From the restart Swansea Ups started to gain the upper hand with some good rucking and thus scored another two well worked trys through their backs, with one conversion.  The score now at 5 - 17 to Uplands.  In respone Liam Morgan, Gowerton's flanker scored an excellent try with a strong run up the middle of the field, then converted by Matthew Williams.  But Swansea Uplands then went on to score a converted try just before half time, leaving the score 12 - 24 to Uplands.

The 2nd half started strongly for Gowerton with a very strong powerful drive putting Liam Morgan over for his 2nd try, which went unconverted.  But Swansea Ups hit back with another 2 quick tries which went unconverted.

Gowerton then scored the last try with a good drive on the Uplands try line to put Luke Williams over for a good try which was converted.  But then another 2 good tries by Uplands, which were also converted left the final score 24 - 48 to Swansea Uplands.

In summary it was a strong forward game from Swansea Uplands, but Gowerton let themselves down in many ways on the day.

Penclawdd 5 Gowerton 43

Gowerton travelled to Penclawdd and started strongly with some good drives from the forwards, but Penclawdd managed to hold on for the earlier period. Then Matthew Williams scored a well worked try through the backs which he then converted. Gowerton then started to get the upper hand with some strong running from Liam Morgan and Dylan Treharne, from with which a well worked drive from the forwards  gave Dylan Treharne the first of his tries which was then converted. From the restart another strong drive from the forwards resulted in Dylan Treharne scoring his second try which went unconverted. Once the game restarted some excellent passing via the Gowerton backs put Lewis Brooks over in the corner which also went unconverted.
Gowerton attacked again from the restart but some good defence from Penclawdd kept Gowerton out on half time.
The second half started with already under strength Penclawdd two injuries which resulted in the game becoming fragmented. Dylan Treharne scored his third try with an excellent run into the Penclawdd twenty two which was converted. Towards the end of the game after some excellent driving by the forwards No 8 Tom Morgan dived over to score their final try of the game which was converted by Matthew Williams.
Fair play to Penclawdd who have some good individuals but on the day Gowerton were too strong.

Well played also to Jamie John, Lewis Brooks, Nathan Williams, Oliver Thomas and Alex Freeman who showed some excellent sportsmanship.

Gowerton 53 - Morriston 0

On another glorious October morning the Starch entertained the Stags of Morriston.  At the kick off the intensity of the Gowerton team was at the fore with slick handling and excellent support play.  On the hottest October day so far this year both teams did well to play an expansive game.  With excellent play from both backs and forwards, Gowerton took the game to Morriston and came away with a 33 - 0 lead at half time.

Despite a comeback by Morriston which was in vain, Gowerton piled on the pressure and came away worthy winners.

Outstanding tries from Gowerton included 2 for Dylan Treharne, 2 for Lewis Brooks, 1 a piece for Oliver Thomas, Liam Morgan, Ashley Watkins, Matthew Williams and a closing try from Jamie John ended an outstanding performance from the whole team. Thanks to Denzil the match day referee.

Dunvant 20 Gowerton 27

Another outstanding win for the Starch!  Gowerton no longer a training exercise and continue their march up the success ladder with a great win against local rivals Dunvant.

After Dunvant scored some early points Liam Morgan scored a well rehearsed try for Gowerton to reduce the deficit.  Gowerton then took control of the game at this stage and put more points on the board with further tries from Ashley Watkins, Matthew Williams and a second for Liam Morgan.  Dunvant then reduced the deficit with a couple of late tries but Gowerton scored a penalty in the last minute to record a comfortable and satisfying victory.  Final score 27 - 20!!!

Gowerton 53 Loughor 14

On Sunday Gowerton invited Loughor to Victoria Road on a very pleasant sunny autumn morning.  A game of running rugby was on the cards and as a spectator this was not a disappointment with the ball being thrown widely around the ground.  Gowerton came out as the positive team and took the game to Loughor.  The Gowerton forwards were immense in the set piece leaving Loughor stunned and shocked! Outstanding back running was in Gowerton's best interest when Cameron Davies, Matthew Williams and Liam Morgan ran in some excellent tries.  Half time score was 24 - 0.
Some excellent running from Loughor brought the score back to 29 - 7 with a try from Scott Rees and Joe Harris, but Gowerton were far too strong and determined for Loughor and took the game back to Loughor with more tries from Jack Porter, Liam Morgan (who had a hatrick) and David Dudley-Jones.  Together with some excellent kicking from Matthew Williams the score line continued to increase.  But towards the end of the game a bit of high spirits between the two teams left the linesman Dean Thomas flying through the air and pounding to the ground.  The game finished with Gowerton feeling very proud of their performance with a final score of 53 points to 14.  Well done to both teams for an outstanding game of rugby and thanks to Mike Bulpitt, match day referee.
